Cyberberri: Lost or Stolen Phone: Emergency Action Plan

Follow these steps immediately when your phone disappears. Time matters.

Step 1: Lock & Locate (Do This First)

☐ Open Find My iPhone (iCloud.com) or Find My Device (Google)
Lock the device remotely
Display a message with your contact info for return
Note the location if shown

Tip: If the phone is dead or offline, these commands will execute when it comes back online.

Step 2: Disable Phone Service (Call Immediately)

Call your carrier to suspend service
Request SIM card deactivation to prevent number hijacking

Carrier Emergency Numbers:

  • Verizon: 1-800-922-0204

  • AT&T: 1-800-331-0500

  • T-Mobile: 1-877-453-1304

  • Sprint: 1-888-211-4727

Your Carrier: _________________ Phone: _________________

Step 3: Secure Your Accounts (Priority Order)

Email password (most important - controls other accounts)
Banking/credit card passwords
Apple ID/Google account (if not already changed)
Social media accounts with sensitive info
Work accounts if you used them on the phone
Shopping accounts (Amazon, PayPal, etc.)

Start with email first - it's often the key to resetting other accounts.

Step 4: Alert Your Network

Text close contacts from another device: "My phone was lost/stolen. Don't trust calls or texts from my number until I confirm it's recovered."
Post on social media if you use it for business
Email important contacts if needed

Additional Steps (If Applicable)

If Stolen:

File police report (insurance may require this)
Contact insurance (homeowners, renters, or device insurance)
Save screenshots of Find My location data

If Work Phone:

Notify IT department immediately
Follow company incident response procedures

For All Phones:

Remove from trusted devices (iCloud Settings > Devices, Google Account > Security)
Check for unauthorized purchases on app stores
Review recent account activity for signs of access
